Saint-Jean-de-Luz has undeniably turned towards the ocean since the 11th century. Like other Basque coastal villages, the main activity was focused on whales. Today, the port has become the 7th French fishing port. It is indeed the ocean that shaped the life of Luziens: between Kaskarots and corsairs there is no shortage of anecdotes about maritime life. His church welcomed in 1660 the marriage of Louis XIV, a union that changed the life of Luziens, even before that of Europe, and of which the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is the wonderful testimony.
