Set on the side of a cliff, San Michele is a traditional family run hotel surrounded by attractive gardens and offering breathtaking views of the island, the bay of Naples, the Sorrento peninsula and the Amalfi coast. Close to the centre of Anacapri and to the chairlift that will transport you to the highest point of the island on Monte Solaro, it is also only a short walk from Axel Munthe's famous Villa San Michele. Constructed in neo-classical style in the 1870's, the hotel opened in 1904 under the name of 'Hotel Molaro' and soon became famous for being frequented by famous artists, writers and noble families. The elegant lounges furnished in the style of Louis XVI provide a welcoming atmosphere that takes one back to the time when the queen of Sweden, the Kaiser and other friends of doctor Axel Munthe frequently visited the hotel.
