Discover the sights and culture of the capital of the Indonesian province of West Nusa Tenggara, Mataram. The largest town on Lombok, Mataram is located on the western side of the island and makes for a very interesting half day of exploration. Following pick up from hotels and resorts in the Senggigi and Mataram areas, the tour starts with a visit to the Lingsar temple compound which dates from 1714. Nestled in lush rice fields this is the holiest temple in Lombok and is used both by Hindus and Muslims. Continue on to the Narmada Summer Palace.Walk around the temple and take plenty of photos of the beautiful water gardens of this former king's palace. The final stop is at Karang Bayan village where the inhabitants still follow a traditional way of life. Spend some time wandering through the village to see the simple thatched roofed wooden houses.
