The region of the Hardangerfjord – the second longest fjord in Norway – has attracted people for millennia: first people came here after the last Ice Age around 7000 BC, the Vikings used its waterways, medieval farmers settled its fertile shores, poets and artists of the Romantic era visited the fjord for inspiration, tourists from abroad started coming here 200 years ago. The majestic beauty of this area is the reason.
