"Ghyll" is the Lakeland word for a mountain stream; scrambling in one is an exhilarating activity for groups young and old. You will climb up spectacular waterfalls, jump in to deep bubbling plunge pools, crawl through tunnels and slide down water polished rock chutes. A full-on wet and wild adventure for everyone! Ghyll Scrambling, gorge walking or canyoning as its sometimes known as is one of the most popular activities in the area. There is no denying it, it ours too. Our main Ghyll scrambling venue is based 10 minutes outside Keswick in the Newlands valley. However, depending on water levels, the group ability and aspirations we may use other venues across the Lake District.

Logistics Instructions

Start location : Your instructor will meet you in the Car park (free) on road between Braithwaite and Buttermere. From Keswick take the A66 westbound for 1 ½ miles and turn left into the village of Braithwaite. In the village take a left fork then a sharp left at a T junction, both turnings are signposted to Newlands Valley. The road leads out of the village and after a mile you will cross a cattle-grid. 500 yards beyond the cattle-grid is a large gravel car park on the left. The lay-by will hold approx 15 cars.
