Gripsholm Castle was built 1537-1545 on behalf of King Gustav Vasa. It is one of Swedens´ most important historical monuments from the 16th century and from the Vasa dynasty. It served as one of the main residences of the royal house and it contains a lot of traces from the different kings and queens that has spent time there the last 400 years. Gripsholm is also the home for the Swedish National Portrait Gallery, It was officially founded in 1822 as the first of it´s kind in the world and it contains more than 5 000 portraits of prominent Swedes from the 1500s until to today. Discover one of the most important historical monuments in Sweden. Enjoy a tour of the castle, see the Vasa Apartments, Duke Karl´s chamber, The Princess´ Apartments, Gustav III´s Theater and portraits of some of the most famous Swedes. We will also see a bit of the old picturesque city Mariefred from 1605 and (if the group wants) enjoy cakes and cookies at the nearby Taxinge Castle.
