The building has a cross plan oriented northwest – southeast and is 26 meters long and 20 meters wide. It has five domes, one large dome with an octagonal drum and no windows is located above the central nave and the other four smaller ones are located above the four corners. The central dome, which is Ottoman, is carried on a broad pointed arches. The mosque has a minaret at the western corner which was rebuilt in baroque style after the earthquake of 1766. Five tiers of windows on the side facades illuminate the inside of the mosque. There is a wooden minber, muezzin's platform and a preacher's pulpit which were all added after the conversion. The interior is largely decorated with plastered 18th century Ottoman paintwork.
On the exterior of the building, on the southeastern façade, there is the central apse with seven sides, that seems to belong to the later Byzantine style. The lateral apses have three sides only. There is also a cornice that runs above the niches.
