The magnificent North African country of Tunisia, located at the heart of the Mediterranean, was a coveted prize throughout the history for the Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Turkish and French, until the country finally gained its independence in 1956. Almost forty percent of the country is composed of the Sahara desert, with much of the remainder consisting of fertile soil in addition to a 1300 km coastline. In the south of the country lie the Sahara, salt lakes as well as many Berber architecture where some of them appeared in Star Wars and the English Patient. Those visitors who will venture into the south, on the threshold of the Sahara desert, will also be fascinated by the much interesting geographical features like the 'forest in the desert' at Ramada, the dry salt lake at Chott el Jerid, or the remote 'end of the road' oasis at Ksar Ghilane. In the north of the country, the visitor will be fascinated by the mountains which are cloaked in cork forest as well as the rich fruit trees, olive groves and vineyards found in Cap Bon peninsular and central Tunisia.
There are some of the most luxurious resorts located along the one-thousand miles coastline in the north side of Tunisia, like Hammamet and Nabeul nestle amid citrus orchards. Visitors here can enjoy the sandy beaches and crystalline waters along the waterfront where they can also take the plunge with some watersports. The country’s cuisine is also a delicious experience with a mix of French, North African, Middle Eastern and Turkish cuisines all available in Tunisia. The visitor can enjoy eating Couscous, harissa (chilli paste), Tajine, Baklava as well as different types of tasty Tunisian salads. The Tunisian cuisine is usually very appealing to all visitors because of its being packed with flavors and based around variety of food types like grains, vegetables, fruits, seafood, liquid-gold olive.
