Heron Island is a true coral cay right on the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef. Conference facilities are also available. Launch transfer: The launch operates daily between Heron Island and Gladstone Marina. A complimentary coach will transport guests between Gladstone Marina and Gladstone Airport. This service does not operate on Christmas Day.

Covering 18 hectares, the island lies on the Tropic of Capricorn (23 degrees south of the equator), 72 km north-east off the coast of Gladstone, central Queensland. It is 534 km north of Brisbane and 1,183 km south of Cairns. Heron Island operates 1 hour ahead of Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) all year round. Gladstone Airport is approximately 72 km from the resort.

Shearwater Restaurant offers breakfast and lunch in buffet style, while dinner features a 3-course table d'hote, Saturday seafood buffet and mid-week Aussie BBQ. Pandanus Bar and Lounge features panoramic reef views with a cocktail bar, entertainment lounge, dance floor and a mezzanine level library area.
