The accommodation was built in 1863 by the first Lord Abinger, near the site of the original, 13th-century fortress. The castle had been a private residence for over a hundred years until 1969, when it was converted from a family home into a country house hotel. Now over 100 years old, the castle has been modernised and upgraded but, as with the beauty of its setting, its imposing style and Victorian grandeur remain timeless. The Great Hall, which guests will see for themselves upon entering the hotel, has a beautifully frescoed ceiling, Venetian crystal chandeliers and a handsome staircase, reflecting the relaxed, tranquil atmosphere of a bygone age. The property comprises a total of 17 accommodation units. Facilities on offer include 24-hour reception and check out, a hotel safe, a currency exchange facility, a cloakroom, an on-site hairdresser, a games room, a bar and a restaurant. Conference facilities are available, as well as WLAN Internet access, room service, a bicycle hire service and parking for those arriving by car. For an additional fee guests can make use of the hotel's laundry service.
