Although not widely advertised, one of the interesting points of this lodge is its quest for self sufficiency. This includes making their own cheeses, yogurt and curd, growing a wide range of vegetables and raising a variety of livestock. (TO ) Tall weather beaten granite boulders mark the location of the lodge and form an integral part of the overall design.

Just 20 kilometres from the main viewpoint of the Fish River Canyon National Park, off the dusty D324, you'll find the Canon Lodge, an oasis seemingly in the middle of nowhere.
