Jerba Island is the perfect place for enjoying summer holidays for its gold sand and crystal clear water in its tranquil beaches. It is also famous for its very hot weather that made the inhabitants from the past till now prefer painting these houses in white color to deflect the sun rays in summer. In winter, the temperature reaches below 15°C and some regions receive a huge amount of rainfall. This is the reason why most of the jerban houses are designed with domed rooftops to allow the water to run to the lower floor for using it later and making the weather cooler in summer. Myth of Jerba, the Land of Lotus Eaters It is widely known that jerba was the land where Ulysses paused in the course of the Odyssey and had a lot of trouble persuading his crew to get back on board. The myth says that when the boat of Ulysses reached the shore of Jerba, the Jerban people gave them a flowery food to eat, the lotus, and this made them forget everything even their way home. Most of the visitors of Jerba or the island of dreams now, hope that they can find that flowery plant that make them forget their way home.
